Janthikalu are the coiled murukku we press through a brass mould, made of rice flour and roasted gram with a touch of butter and ajwain. The dough must be soft and warm, and I squeeze each spiral fresh so it holds its pretty shape in the oil.

At Diwali my kitchen fills with these golden coils cooling on banana leaves. They are gentle on the spice and loved by young and old, a snack that brings everyone to the same plate.

Stone-ground rice or pulse flour, real ghee or filtered oil, salt, and the spices our home cooks have measured by hand for decades. No preservatives, no colours, no shortcuts. Each pack is made fresh in a small batch.

Storage

Store in an airtight tin in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Best enjoyed within 30 days of opening. Refrigeration is not needed.
